Kamala Harris will be Joe Biden's running mate

(Wilmington) Joe Biden finally chose California Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate.

The Democratic presidential candidate thus marks history by his choice, since M me Harris becomes the first black woman to run for vice-president of a major party in the United States. Mr. Biden thus recognizes the role that black voters will play in his attempt to defeat Republican President Donald Trump.

Mr. Biden made his much-anticipated announcement on Twitter and in a message to supporters on Tuesday afternoon. “Together, with you, we will beat Trump”, he wrote in particular.

The Democratic duo are due to speak publicly on Wednesday in Wilmington, Delaware.

Kamala Harris was one of Joe Biden’s rivals in the Democratic nomination contest. This 55 year-old senator, who is in her first term in Congress, is considered one of the most important figures of the Democratic Party and was quickly approached as a potential vice-presidential candidate after the end of her own campaign. She had previously made a name for herself as the Attorney General of California.

M me Harris spent part of his youth in Montreal, in the years 1970. Her mother, who specializes in the fight against breast cancer, was a professor at McGill University and a researcher at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal.
